September 17 - 21, 2012

Hello People of Room 116!

The first full week of school has come and gone for our Kindergarten students!

This week the students will continue to build on their awareness of themselves through learning about their five senses. Ms. Richa and myself will be setting up a series of centres that allow students to experience and use their sense of sight, smell, taste, hearing, and touch. You can support your child's learning by asking them questions at home about their senses. Ask them:
-What does dinner taste like? What kind of things can you smell on your way to school? What kind of things do you hear in your apartment/house?

Keep giving your child opportunities to talk at home and extend their learning!

Borrow-a-Books (IMPORTANT) - I had mentioned at the JK intake that I would be sending home the borrow-a-books this week, but after our first long challenging week adjusting to the Full Day program Ms. Richa and I have decided to hold off for at least another week. We will begin working with the students on their literacy skills in class and we suggest you do the same at home, but we are not sure our students are ready for another new routine yet.

Name Writing- JK parents please continue to work with your child on writing their name and recognizing their name.

Thanks. I look forward to week 2!

Best Regards,

Mr. Grady
